Does a Smartphone processor slow down over years?

Everyone amongst us uses a smartphone in today’s time. Some smartphone users have a tendency to change/switch to the latest smartphone every year. On the other hand, some are those who use their smartphone to its fullest and don’t change to a new one until they notice their smartphone is quietly dying, which simply means they notice an extremely slow down in performance.

This slowdown in performance and lag issue is entirely attributed to its processor, which is not really the case and it gives rise to a question in my mind.

Does a smartphone processor really slow down over years? If it does, then why?

The processor itself never slows down, but some external factors have a direct or indirect impact on a processor which slows down its performance over years, and one of the major factors is heat. Heat or rather overheating is a clear enemy to a processor which degrades it over time.

When does a Smartphone processor heats?

  • When a smartphone battery degrades.

So far, a bunch of smartphone users still don’t know that over time there is something else happening with a smartphone battery other than a decline in battery health.

As time passes by, a smartphone battery begins to generate overheating which encompasses a processor as well. Moreover, it no longer gives as much power as a smartphone requires to keep up tasks with processing.

  • When you stress out a processor.

Using multiple applications at the same time and leaving some background activity turned on can ultimately stress out a processor since a processor has a limited power to handle limited number of tasks. If anytime you push the smartphone usage beyond the limit, then the processor begins to overheat.

  • When you expose a smartphone to an extreme temprature.

Exposing a smartphone to extreme temperature for a long time does not only degrade a processor but a battery as well. So, you must bear one thing in mind: heat is a clear enemy to your smartphone.

Overheating issues with processor and battery coexist.

This blogpost gives a clue that a battery and a processor degrade at the same time. When a smartphone battery overheats, then heat encompasses the processor as well. Similarly, when a smartphone processor overheats, then heat encompasses the battery as well.
